Softball Recap: Clay-Battelle Comes Up Short

Clay-Battelle extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 3-10 in the process. They took a 9-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lewis County Minutemen. If the Cee-Bees were looking for revenge after losing 15-0 to the Minutemen when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Savannah Doshen was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Alexis Styles was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI.

As for Lewis County, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games.

On Lewis County's side, Haleigh Bishop spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on nine hits. Bishop has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Lewis County let Addie Curry and Courtney Boggs run wild. Curry went 2-for-3 with four RBI, while Boggs went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most hits Curry has posted over her last eight games. Another player making a difference was Addisyn Posey, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Clay-Battelle has already played their next contest, a 12-4 defeat against Turkeyfoot Valley Area on the 24th. As for Lewis County, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 16-7 victory against North Marion on the 24th.
