Basketball Recap: Stephan Hewitt Key Part of Team Effort in Falcons Win

With a playoff win on the line, Christian Brothers rose to the challenge on Friday. They managed a 51-45 win over Fairfield. Given Christian Brothers' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 77th, while Fairfield is ranked 349th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Christian Brothers' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Stephan Hewitt, who posted 20 points and five boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Daniel Powers, who almost dropped a double-double with nine points and 11 rebounds.

Christian Brothers smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in December of 2023.

Despite the loss, Fairfield still got an impressive performance from Johnnie Jones, who dropped a double-double with 23 points and ten boards. Jones is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Davion Johnson, who had three points in addition to eight rebounds and three blocks.

Christian Brothers is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.8 points over those games. Fairfield's defeat dropped their record down to 21-9.

Coming up, Christian Brothers will challenge Twelve Bridges at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Twelve Bridges will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Christian Brothers surely won't give up without a fight. Fairfield does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
