It's playoff time, and South Adams had no trouble coming through when it counted. They took their game on Friday with ease, bagging a 42-14 victory over the Hagerstown Tigers. The result was nothing new for the Starfires, who have now won eight matchups by 26 points or more so far this season.
Will Patterson was his usual excellent self, picking up 76 receiving yards and a pair of TDs, while also rushing for 39 yards. He also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, picking up a sack and making three total tackles.
South Adams' run defense was locked in: Hagerstown could only muster 3.4 yards per carry. While two picked up at least six total tackles, Kaleb Minger stood above the rest. He picked up two sacks, made six total tackles (3.0 for loss), and defended one pass in addition to snagging an interception. South Adams' ground attack was stronger, having averaged 4.9.
South Adams' defense didn't let Graham Vinson, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for four sacks. Minger was especially locked on to Hagerstown's QB and sacked him twice. Minger is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made five or more in each of the last five games he's played.
Despite the loss, Hagerstown had strong showings from Isaac Schmitz, who picked up 74 receiving yards and two scores, and Vinson, who threw for 164 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Schmitz didn't just play on offense: he also made ten total tackles (1.0 for loss) and defended one pass.
South Adams is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 41.0 points over those games. As for Hagerstown, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-7.
Looking ahead, South Adams will head out on the road to challenge North Miami at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Starfires will need to watch out since the Warriors have now posted at least 31 points in their last three games. Hagerstown does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
