Baseball Recap: Irvington Triumphs

Irvington never let their opponents score on Wednesday. They came out on top against the American Eagles by a score of 5-0. That's more bragging rights for the Vikings, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Irvington got a great performance from Devin Patel as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. Patel also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because the Vikings are 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 3-7 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Brayden Jaksa, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Wesley Ren, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Irvington is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for American, they dropped their record down to 1-9 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home.

Irvington will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Eagles: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
