Softball Game Preview: Broughton Capitals vs. Knightdale Knights

The Broughton Capitals will face off against the Knightdale Knights at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Broughton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.7 runs per game this season.

If Broughton beats Knightdale with 15 runs on Wednesday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two matchups with that exact score. Everything went Broughton's way against Rolesville on Tuesday as Broughton made off with a 15-5 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Capitals.

Avery Troxell was a standout: she fired off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs while going 2-for-4. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lucy Bertram, who scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Broughton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rolesville only posted a batting average of .188.

Meanwhile, Knightdale was not able to break out of their rough patch last Monday as the team picked up their ninth straight defeat dating back to last season. They lost 26-4 to Enloe.

Knightdale's loss dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Broughton, the win got them back to even at 3-3.

Broughton took their victory against Knightdale in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 12-0. Does Broughton have another victory up their sleeve, or will Knightdale turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
