Softball Game Preview: Housatonic Mountaineers vs. Thomaston Bears

Housatonic hasn't had much luck against Thomaston recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Mountaineers will look to defend their home field against the Bears at 3:45 p.m.

Housatonic is headed into Wednesday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their sixth straight game dating back to last season on Monday. They came up short against Nonnewaug, falling 16-0.

Meanwhile, Thomaston had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Monday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Kangaroos a 26-0 shutout. That looming 26-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Bears yet this season.

Madison Decker was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs and two RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Thomaston got a massive performance out of Aylin Lahey, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and five RBI. That home run was Lahey's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Addison Patchell, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.

Thomaston pushed their record up to 4-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Housatonic, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.
