Basketball Recap: Sumner-Eddyville-Miller Comes Up Short

Sumner-Eddyville-Miller was the 61-18 winner over Silver Lake when they last played one another back in January of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Sumner-Eddyville-Miller Mustangs took a blow against the Silver Lake Mustangs on Friday, falling 60-27. While losing is never fun, Sumner-Eddyville-Miller can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 201st, while Silver Lake is ranked 75th).

Despite the defeat, Sumner-Eddyville-Miller had strong showings from Katelynn Reiter, who posted nine points along with seven rebounds and three steals, and Jaycelyn Hoos, who almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine boards. Hoos is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last seven games she's played.

Makenna Karr was her usual excellent self, almost dropping a double-double on 17 points and nine rebounds for Silver Lake. Sophie Schmidt was another key player, putting up seven points in addition to eight steals and five assists.

Sumner-Eddyville-Miller is on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-8. As for Silver Lake, they pushed their record up to 12-2 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home.

Sumner-Eddyville-Miller has already played their next match, a 53-38 loss against Ansley/Litchfield on the 28th. As for Silver Lake, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 45-35 win against Wilcox-Hildreth on the 28th.
