Basketball Recap: Monroe Snaps Three-Game Streak of Wins on the Road

After flying high against Central Academy last Friday, Monroe came back down to earth. The Monroe Redhawks fell 66-58 to the Forest Hills Yellow Jackets on Thursday. The Redhawks were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Yellow Jackets apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Despite the loss, Monroe still got an impressive performance from Janiyah Boyd, who dropped a double-double on 30 points and ten rebounds. Boyd's evening made it 11 games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Summer Jones was another key player, going 6 for 13 on her way to 14 points.

Even though they lost, Monroe smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in nine consecutive matchups.

Forest Hills got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Nyjaya Wingo out in front who went 7 of 10 en route to 17 points and five boards. Another player making a difference was Azariya Griffin, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 14 rebounds.

Monroe's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-3. As for Forest Hills, their win was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-2.

Monroe didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 62-57 victory against Piedmont on the 28th. As for Forest Hills, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 58-24 win against Parkwood on the 24th.
