Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Julius Phillips Jr and Trae Cousin Lead Farrell to Victory

Farrell lost to Sewickley Academy back in March of 2016, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Sunday. The Farrell Steelers secured a 58-54 W over Sewickley Academy. The win was all the more spectacular given the Steelers' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 322nd, while Sewickley Academy are ranked 146th).

Leading Farrell to victory were Trae Cousin and Julius Phillips Jr. Cousin went 9 for 16 on his way to 22 points, while Phillips Jr made all 5 shots he took for 14 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals. The dominant performance also gave Phillips Jr a new career-high in blocks (three). Another player making a difference was Juelz Johnson, who posted 12 points and three steals.

Farrell's victory bumped their record up to 3-4. As for Sewickley Academy, with the loss, they broke their nine-game winning streak and moved their record to 9-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Farrell will venture away from home to challenge Grove City at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Grove City will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something Farrell surely won't give up without a fight. As for Sewickley Academy, they will head out to take on Leechburg at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Sewickley Academy is facing Leechburg at the right time seeing as Leechburg is stuck on a six-game losing streak.
