Clayton came tearing into Thursday's contest with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15 points), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Smithfield-Selma Spartans 63-13. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Comets' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 149th, while the Spartans are ranked 383rd).

Clayton's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Y'Zana Lee Randle led the charge by putting up 17 points. Lee Randle has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. Christa Green was another key player, going 5-for-10 to rack up 11 points.

Clayton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive boards in five consecutive matchups.

Clayton's record now sits at 5-1. As for Smithfield-Selma, their loss was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-7.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Clayton will take on rival Southeast Raleigh at 6:15 p.m. on the 19th. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Lee Randle and Dariyah Harris. Meanwhile, Smithfield-Selma is set to challenge their familiar foe Garner at 5:30 p.m. on the 19th.
