Volleyball Recap: Evangeline Gutierrez Leads a Balanced Effort to Beat Lee County

Brookstone won the last time they faced Lee County and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Cougars walked away with a 2-0 victory over the Trojans. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Cougars.

Not only was the match a shutout, it was a big one: Brookstone took both sets by at least 13 points. The match finished with set scores of 25-12, 25-9.

Brookstone's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Evangeline Gutierrez, who had 15 assists. Those 15 assists gave Gutierrez a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Anne Sluder, who had six digs and three aces.

Brookstone was lethal from the service line and finished the game with ten aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least six aces in 14 consecutive games dating back to last season.

Brookstone's victory bumped their record up to 6-1.

Coincidentally, Brookstone and Lee County will both be playing Landmark Christian the next time they take the court. The Trojans will head out to face the War Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while the Cougars will play them later in the day, at 7:00 p.m.
