Football Recap: Nixon Takes a Loss + How To Watch

Nixon and New Braunfels squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Nixon had to settle for second. They were dealt a 49-14 defeat at the hands of the Unicorns. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 578th, while the Unicorns are ranked 159th).

Nixon lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Hunter Salinas, who threw for 172 yards and one touchdown while completing 72.7% of his passes, and also punched in one score on the ground. A healthy portion of Salinas' aerial production (80 yards to be exact) went to Mateo Hernandez.

LEVI GOLLA continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for New Braunfels, throwing for 188 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 84.6% of his passes, and also punching in one score on the ground. The dominant performance also gave GOLLA a new career-high in passer rating (164.3).

Nixon's loss dropped their record down to 7-4. As for New Braunfels, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 9-2.

Nixon does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for New Braunfels, they will take on McAllen Memorial at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Unicorns' defense better be ready for this one: the Mustangs have averaged an impressive 32.5 points per game this season.
