Volleyball Recap: Chittenango Triumphs

Chittenango won the last time they faced Rome Free Academy and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Bears came out on top against the Black Knights by a score of 3-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Bears.

Chittenango had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 22-25, 25-23, 25-23, 25-17.

Their offense was headlined by Owen LaPointe and Micah Schiralli, who picked up ten kills apiece. They got some help from Gavin Karwoski and his 28 assists. He was also solid from the service line: he led the team with four aces.

Rome Free Academy's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Miguel Vargas, who had 15 digs and 13 kills. Another player making a difference was Elijah Pomales, who had nine digs and one block.

Chittenango's victory bumped their record up to 8-6. As for Rome Free Academy, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Chittenango is set to challenge their familiar foe Vernon-Verona-Sherrill at 6:45 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Rome Free Academy will take on rival Proctor at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
