Softball Recap: Marquette Catholic's Losing Streak Snapped at Five Games

Marquette Catholic can bid farewell to their five-game losing streak thanks to their game on Friday. Everything went their way against the Collinsville Kahoks as they made off with a 9-2 victory. For the Explorers, this counts as revenge for the 4-1 win the Kahoks walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

Kenna Lievers was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Alyssa Coles and Kennedy Eveans did most of the damage at the plate: Coles went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Eveans went 2-for-4 with three runs and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Jayla Dickson, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one double.

Marquette Catholic's victory bumped their record up to 4-10. As for Collinsville, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-12.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Marquette Catholic will square off against East Alton-Wood River at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Explorers are facing the Oilers at the right time seeing as the Oilers are stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Collinsville, they will take on Edwardsville at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
