Softball Game Preview: Leading Edge Academy - GEC Spartans vs. St. Augustine Catholic Wolves

The Leading Edge Academy - GEC Spartans will be taking part in a tournament against the St. Augustine Catholic Wolves at 10:00 a.m. on Friday. Leading Edge Academy - GEC has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the contest with four straight losses, while St. Augustine Catholic will come in with three straight wins.

Evelyn Ibarra and Corynn Foster did some serious damage despite the final result: Ibarra scored three runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances, while Foster scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Foster has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Arianna Collins, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask St. Augustine Catholic). They came out on top in a nail-biter against Leading Edge Academy - GEC on Monday, sneaking past 32-30.

St. Augustine Catholic let Lourdes Gamez and Maria Martinez run wild. Gamez went 2-for-5 with nine RBI, two doubles, and one run, while Martinez went 2-for-5 with five runs, four RBI, and one triple. The dominant performance gave Gamez a new career-high in RBI.

St. Augustine Catholic hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most four strikeouts in three consecutive matches.

St. Augustine Catholic pushed their record up to 3-1 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 23.7 runs over those games. As for Leading Edge Academy - GEC, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-4.
