Preview: Evergreen Cougars vs. Wheat Ridge Farmers
The Evergreen Cougars will be playing at home against the Wheat Ridge Farmers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Evergreen focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up four on Thursday.
Evergreen fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back victories it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They enjoyed a cozy 25-6 victory over Skyview.
Evergreen can attribute much of their success to Solomon Bentrott, who rushed for 79 yards and a touchdown on only five carries, and Josh Bittner, who rushed for 155 yards and three touchdowns on only 15 carries. Bentrott's longest rush was for an incredible 75 yards.
Meanwhile, Wheat Ridge fell victim to Green Mountain's stalwart defense on Thursday and couldn't make it onto the board. They were outmatched by the Rams at home and fell 50-0. While losing is never fun, Wheat Ridge can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado football rankings (they are ranked 145th, while Green Mountain is ranked 17th).
With Evergreen's victory and Wheat Ridge's loss, both teams now sport identical 2-6 records.
Everything came up roses for Evergreen against Wheat Ridge when the teams last played back in October of 2022 as the squad secured a 70-7 win. Does Evergreen have another victory up their sleeve, or will Wheat Ridge turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
