Football Recap: Mountain View Takes a Loss

The matchup between Mountain View and Massaponax on Friday hardly resembled the 21-0 effort from their previous meeting. The Wildcats fell 40-27 to the Panthers. The Wildcats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Panthers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in September of 2024.

Despite the loss, Mountain View still got an impressive performance from Bryce Lambert, who threw for 298 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 88.2% of his passes.

Massaponax's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Joe Sanders, who rushed for 171 yards and three scores while picking up 10.7 yards per carry. That's the most rushing yards Sanders has posted since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Brian Henderson, who rushed for 124 yards and a pair of TDs on only 14 carries.

This is the second loss in a row for Mountain View and nudges their season record down to 2-4. As for Massaponax, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mountain View will host Riverbend at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bears' defense has only allowed 4.4 points per game this season, so the Wildcats' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Massaponax, they will be playing at home against North Stafford at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
