Softball Game Preview: South Point Pointers vs. Chesapeake Panthers

South Point and Chesapeake are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2021, but likely not for long. The Pointers will be playing at home against the Panthers at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The timing is sure in South Point's favor as the team sits on four straight wins at home while Chesapeake has been banged up by five consecutive losses on the road.

On Monday, South Point didn't have quite enough to beat Ironton and fell 6-5.

Kota Copley put in work no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed six innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits. Copley was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played.

In other batting news, Adyson Copley was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double.

Portsmouth hit Chesapeake with a six-run fifth inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Panthers lost 12-2 to the Trojans.

Chesapeake saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Felicity Bellomy, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Chesapeake's defeat dropped their record down to 7-15. As for South Point, their loss dropped their record down to 16-7.

Chesapeake's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: South Point has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.1 hits per game. It's a different story for Chesapeake, though, as they've been averaging 8.8 hits. Given South Point's sizable advantage in that area, the Panthers will need to find a way to close that gap.

South Point got the 'W' when the teams last played two weeks ago against Chesapeake by a conclusive 12-0 score. Do the Pointers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Panthers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
