Football Recap: Strong Effort on D from Justus Wehrman and Garrett Smidt Leads Tri County over Southern

Tri County won the last time they faced Southern and Garrett Smidt did his part to make sure it happened again. The Trojans breezed past the Raiders to the tune of 54-12 on Friday for which the team can thank Smidt, who rushed for 125 yards and three TDs on only five carries. The bulk of those rushing yards came from one huge play: a run that gained an incredible 72 yards.

Tri County didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Justus Wehrman and Smidt. Wehrman got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Although Southern took the loss, they still got scores from Paxx Adams and Carsen Goes.

Tri County's record is now 2-3. As for Southern, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-4.

Coming up, Tri County will square off against Exeter-Milligan/Friend at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Trojans will be up against the Bobcats' rather soft defense (which has allowed 32.4 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Southern, they will take on Thayer Central at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Titans' defense has only allowed 14.6 points per game this season, so the Raiders' offense will have their work cut out for them.
