Basketball Game Preview: Roncalli Royals vs. Center Grove Trojans

Two dominant guards in Elliot Leffler and Gracyn Gilliard are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Roncalli Royals are taking a road trip to challenge the Center Grove Trojans at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are still undefeated after five games, but that won't be the case come Tuesday.

Roncalli is headed into the game after thoroughly thrashing Beech Grove: they outscored them in every quarter. The Royals blew past the Hornets 56-32 on Thursday. The Royals have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four matchups by 20 points or more this season.

Roncalli's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Caroline Schoettle, who posted five points and eight rebounds. Another player making a difference was Brennah Cerny, who put up nine points.

Meanwhile, Center Grove was fully in charge on Saturday, breezing past Franklin Community 51-19.

Center Grove found their leader in sophomore Gilliard, who shot 53% from the field en route to 20 points in addition to five boards and three steals. Lillia Tapak also set a new season-high mark in field goal percentage with 67%. Anna Karr also deserves some recognition as she scored her first points of the season.

Roncalli's record now sits at 5-0. As for Center Grove, their record is now an identical 5-0.

Roncalli came up short against Center Grove in their previous matchup back in November of 2024, falling 45-33. Can the Royals avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
