Volleyball Recap: Diller-Odell Comes Up Short

If Diller-Odell was riding high fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Lewiston on Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Griffin fell just short of the Sacred Heart Irish by a score of 3-2 on Tuesday. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Irish this season, with their most recent loss being a 2-0 defeat back in September.

Diller-Odell took Sacred Heart into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking four-point loss. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-14, 25-14, 22-25, 20-25, 15-11.

Despite the defeat, Diller-Odell saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Sidney Engelman had 20 digs and two assists. Those 20 digs set a new season-high mark for Engelman.

Leading Sacred Heart to victory were Bailey Lemerond and Emersyn Courtney. Lemerond had eight digs and four aces, while Courtney had 16 digs and one assist. That's the most digs Lemerond has posted since back in September.

Diller-Odell's loss dropped their record down to 12-16. As for Sacred Heart, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 18-15.

Diller-Odell does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Sacred Heart, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 3-0 defeat against Cambridge on the 1st.
