Softball Recap: Mt. Vernon Takes Down Ranked West County

Mt. Vernon faced West County in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Mountaineers were the clear victors by a 10-1 margin over the Bulldogs. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Mountaineers also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2024.

Emily Schubert spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Molly Daniels, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Maddie Schubert also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Daniels wasn't the only one making solid contact: Mt. Vernon kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in seven consecutive games.

Mt. Vernon's record now sits at 12-4. As for West County, with the loss, they broke their six-game winning streak and moved their record to 9-2.

Mt. Vernon has already played their next matchup, a 14-4 win against Houston on the 11th. As for West County, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, an 8-6 defeat against Diamond on the 12th.
