Hinton has gone 6-1 against Carnegie recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Hinton Comets will look to defend their home field against the Carnegie Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. The timing isn't great for Hinton: they have been struggling with four straight losses at home dating back to last season, while Carnegie has snatched up three consecutive wins on the road.
Having struggled with eight defeats in a row dating back to last season, Hinton turned things around against Cordell on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 19-3 margin over the Blue Devils. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Comets considering their two-run performance the contest before.
Randen House and Wyatt Stefler were a major factor no matter where they played. On the mound, House struck out seven batters over 3.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs but no hits. Meanwhile, Stefler pitched 2.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. At the plate, House scored three runs while going 2-for-4, while Stefler scored two runs while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances.
In other batting news, Hinton got a massive performance out of Jacob Bonnewell, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Deuce Tripp, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Hinton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .622. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cordell only posted an OBP of .469.
While Carnegie didn't have the best season last year (they finished 12-15), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They blew past Geary 12-1 on Friday. Fans of the Wildcats have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.
Like Hinton, Carnegie also got a great game from a two-way player: Chizm Kuykendall. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and not a single walk). Furthermore, Kuykendall didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing Four bases. while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Stetson West was a standout: he scored two runs and stole Six bases. while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. Those six stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Chasen Anderson was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Hinton's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Carnegie, their victory bumped their record up to 4-0.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Hinton has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10 hits per game. However, it's not like Carnegie struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.8 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Hinton suffered a grim 13-1 defeat to Carnegie when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can Hinton avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
