Clairton had lost four straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 0-9 to make it five. They lost 18-5 to the Bishop Canevin Crusaders. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Crusaders this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-0 on Tuesday.
Adonte Wiggins was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those runs were his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Quintin Thompson, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
As for Bishop Canevin, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 8-4. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by ten runs or more this season.
On Bishop Canevin's side, Kole Olszewski and Tyler Maddix made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Olszewski tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Meanwhile, Maddix struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in May of 2024. At bat, Olszewski went 2-for-4 with two triples, two RBI, and one run, while Maddix went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.
In other batting news, Bishop Canevin got a massive performance out of Kellen Andruscik, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. Andruscik has become a key player for the Crusaders: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-4 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Aaryn Edwards, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run.
We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Clairton is set to take on their familiar foe Sewickley Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Bishop Canevin will square off against rival Serra Catholic at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
