Basketball Game Preview: Center Grove Trojans vs. Lawrence North Wildcats

The Center Grove Trojans will venture away from home to take on the Lawrence North Wildcats at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Lawrence North took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Center Grove, who comes in off a win.

Center Grove is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They took their contest on Thursday with ease, bagging a 64-32 victory over Columbus North. The Trojans have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight games by 21 points or more this season.

Gracyn Gilliard continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, going 8 of 17 en route to 19 points along with five assists and five steals. Those five assists gave her a new career-high. Ava Grant was another key player, going 5 for 11 on her way to 14 points.

They weren't the only one working in the assists department: Center Grove was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Lawrence North faced Lawrence Central in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. Lawrence North came up short against Lawrence Central, falling 68-44. The match marked the Wildcats' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Center Grove pushed their record up to 15-2 with the win, which was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.7 points per game. As for Lawrence North, their loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 10-6.

Center Grove strolled past Lawrence North when the teams last played back in December of 2023 by a score of 65-48. The rematch might be a little tougher for Center Grove since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
