Basketball Game Preview: Red Springs Red Devils vs. Fairmont Golden Tornadoes

Red Springs is 0-10 against Fairmont since February of 2022 but things could change on Friday. The Red Springs Red Devils will be playing in front of their home fans against the Fairmont Golden Tornadoes at 6:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Red Springs sitting on three straight wins and Fairmont on eight.

On Wednesday, Red Springs didn't have too much trouble with Midway as they won 41-24.

Red Springs had a senior duo take command as Adrianna Locklear posted 13 points and seven rebounds and Monica Washington scored 11 points and five boards. Locklear continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last four games she's played. Bailey Locklear was another key player, putting up six points.

Meanwhile, Fairmont got the win against Clinton on Tuesday by a conclusive 55-33. The Golden Tornadoes have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six matches by 22 points or more this season.

Fairmont's win came from a few key players Red Springs will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Taniya Simms, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 18 boards. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in blocks (eight). Another player making a difference was Lyric McNair, who went 6 of 10 en route to 14 points along with seven rebounds and six steals.

Fairmont was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Clinton only racked up two assists.

Fairmont pushed their record up to 16-1 with the victory, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Red Springs, their win ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 6-12.
