Basketball Recap: De La Salle Takes a Loss

De La Salle and Chicago Mt. Carmel squared off in some playoff action on Wednesday, but De La Salle had to settle for second. They took a 58-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Chicago Mt. Carmel Caravan. While losing is never fun, the Meteors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 90th, while the Caravan are ranked tenth).

It was another big night for Grant Best, who posted 16 points along with seven boards and three steals for Chicago Mt. Carmel. The match was Best's fifth in a row with at least 16 points. Another player making a difference was Noah Mister, who put up 15 points.

De La Salle has been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last nine contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 16-18 record this season. Chicago Mt. Carmel has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 18 of their last 21 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 28-5 record this season.

De La Salle does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Chicago Mt. Carmel, they will square off against St. Laurence at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as St. Laurence comes in on 13 and Chicago Mt. Carmel on ten.
