Baseball Game Preview: Gaston Greyhounds vs. Nestucca Bobcats

Gaston hasn't had much luck against Nestucca recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Greyhounds will face off against the Bobcats at 4:30 p.m. Gaston is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.

On Friday, Gaston didn't have quite enough to beat Portland Christian and fell 6-5.

Gaston saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Zach Bozich, who went 2-for-4 with two runs. Bozich is becoming a predictor of the Greyhounds' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 3-4 when he doesn't). Another was Chase Oylear, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Nestucca was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 9-7 heartbreaker at the hands of Clatskanie. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Bobcats have suffered since May 11, 2024.

Brysen McDonald was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run. Brenton Schiminesky was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs.

Gaston's loss dropped their record down to 6-5. As for Nestucca, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-9.

Gaston couldn't quite get it done against Nestucca when the teams last played back in April of 2024 as they fell 14-10. Can the Greyhounds avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
