4A Region III District 17 recap November 5, 2013
Elgin extended the longest winning streak in 4A Region III District 17 this week by beating Bastrop, 45-7. The victory was the ninth in a row for the team.
Jose Vasquez provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Cedar Creek fell to East View. He completed 14 passes for 187 yards and 1 touchdown and also ran for 82 yards. Vasquez's favorite target this week was Devin Tuggle, who caught 10 passes for 130 yards.
Ben Bottlinger threw for 160 yards and 3 touchdowns. He went 17-22 with 1 interception.
Da'Trean Simmons was the best running back in the league this week. He ran for 131 yards on 25 carries as Elgin fell to East View. Te'Rel Simmons also contributed to the rushing game with 59 yards on the ground.
Georgetown's Bottlinger and Ben Nunes led the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-1 quarterback Bottlinger has thrown for 1,600 yards this season, while Nunes has 45 catches for 548 yards. Wade Griffin's team's Simmons leads the league in rushing yards with 1,435.
The Eagles are currently in third, while the Bears are in sixth.
East View led 4A Region III District 17 in scoring this week after putting up 63 points on Cedar Creek.
