Basketball Game Preview: El Capitan Gauchos vs. Burbank Titans

The El Capitan Gauchos will take on the Burbank Titans at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

El Capitan is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They came out on top against Placer by a score of 67-54. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Gauchos' disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 284th, while the Hillmen are ranked 95th).

Meanwhile, Burbank entered their tilt with Roseville on Friday with six consecutive wins , and they'll enter their next game with seven. They walked away with a 70-62 win over the Tigers.

El Capitan better focus on containing Michael Butcher and Julian James-Jardines as the pair were huge in Burbank's win. Butcher almost dropped a double-double with 25 points and nine assists, while James-Jardines went 7-for-9 on his way to 19 points along with five assists and five rebounds. The dominant performance gave James-Jardines a new career-high in points. DJ Massey was another key player, going 5-for-8 en route to 10 points and three steals.

Burbank was working as a unit and finished the game with 25 assists. They racked up 11 more assists than Roseville's also-impressive total of 14.

El Capitan is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 13 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-10 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.4 points over those games. Burbank pushed their record up to 23-8 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road.
