Recap: Riverdale Warriors vs. Smyrna Bulldogs
The Riverdale Warriors lost against the Smyrna Bulldogs back in December of 2021, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. Riverdale was the victim of a tough 56-32 loss at the hands of Smyrna. Riverdale has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Riverdale's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Waymon West, who scored 10 points along with 5 rebounds. Gray Turek was another key contributor, scoring 5 points along with 8 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Riverdale were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Smyrna only pulled down five.
Leading Smyrna to victory were Tyreque Mccarver and Jalylle Batey-roberts. Mccarver scored 14 points, while Batey-roberts scored 15 points. The game was Mccarver's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lance Garner, who scored 6 points.
Riverdale's loss dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Smyrna, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 5-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Riverdale will face off against Shelbyville Central at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Shelbyville Central is coming into the game on a five-game losing streak. As for Smyrna, they will head out on the road to face off against Overton at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Overton knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past six matchups -- so hopefully Smyrna likes a good challenge.
