Preview: Riverside-Durham Pirates vs. Northern Durham Knights
The Riverside-Durham Pirates will head out on the road to face off against the Northern Durham Knights at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Northern Durham took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Riverside-Durham, who comes in off a win.
Riverside-Durham had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat East Chapel Hill 29-0 at home. The win was just what Riverside-Durham needed coming off of a 70-0 defeat in their prior match.
Riverside-Durham can attribute much of their success to Khalil Williams, who rushed for 102 yards and a touchdown. Mitchell Bonner made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
Meanwhile, Northern Durham's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They took a serious blow against Jordan, falling 49-3. While losing is never fun, Northern Durham can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 303rd, while Jordan is ranked 39th).
Riverside-Durham's win bumped their record up to 3-6. As for Northern Durham, their loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 2-7.
Everything came up roses for Riverside-Durham against Northern Durham when the teams last played back in September of 2022 as the team secured a 56-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Riverside-Durham since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
