Softball Recap: Wallkill Comes Up Short

After flying high against Our Lady of Lourdes on Monday, Wallkill came back down to earth. The Panthers fell 3-0 to the Middletown Middie Bears on Tuesday.

Madison Auger spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on six hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Wallkill saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lily Kilpatrick, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.

Wallkill has also been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-9-2 record this season. As for Middletown, their win ended a six-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-11.

Coming up, Wallkill will host Goshen Central at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Gladiators' pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so the Panthers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Middletown, they will head out on the road to face off against Monroe-Woodbury at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
