Softball Recap: Elk Grove Gets the Win

Elk Grove lost to Vanden back in March of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Tuesday. The Elk Grove Thundering Herd skirted past the Vanden Vikings 9-8. That's two games straight that the Thundering Herd have won by just one run.

Rachel Williams tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Izianah Castillo was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. That stolen base marked the first that she snagged this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Loie Moore, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-4.

Elk Grove kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are 4-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

The victory got Elk Grove back to even at 5-5. As for Vanden, the loss was their first at home , dropping their record down to 3-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Elk Grove will challenge Vista del Lago at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Vanden, they will square off against Pioneer at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Pioneer will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Vanden surely won't give up without a fight.
