Baseball Game Preview: Fort Morgan Mustangs vs. Strasburg Indians

The Fort Morgan Mustangs will face off against the Strasburg Indians at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Fort Morgan will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.

Fort Morgan came out on top against Weld Central on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive eight-run first inning. The Mustangs put the hurt on the Rebels with a sharp 15-4 victory. Considering the Mustangs have won five matchups by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Fort Morgan got a great performance from JJ Marquez as he struck out eight batters over 4.2 innings while giving up four earned runs off seven hits (and only one walk).

On the hitting side, Angel Lopez was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Miguel Davila was another key player, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles.

Fort Morgan was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .517. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Liberty Common hit Strasburg with a four-run second inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Indians lost 12-5 to the Eagles. Indians fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Eagles since on Tuesday.

Fort Morgan's win bumped their record up to 7-9. As for Strasburg, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-6 record this season.
