Baseball Recap: Batavia Comes Up Short

Batavia extended their losing streak to three on Saturday, dropping them down to 8-11-1. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the hands of the Geneva Vikings. That's two games in a row now that the Bulldogs have lost by just one run.

As for Geneva, they pushed their record up to 20-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.75 runs across that stretch.

For Geneva's part, they got a great performance from Noah Hallahan as he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Hallahan has posted since back in March.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Mason Bruesch, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases.

While Batavia had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
