Basketball Recap: Daniyah Burton's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Central Cabarrus over East Rowan

Central Cabarrus was the 57-35 winner over East Rowan when they last played one another back in December of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Central Cabarrus Vikings received a blow on Friday as they fell 63-48 to the East Rowan Mustangs. While losing is never fun, the Vikings can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 333rd, while the Mustangs are ranked 156th).

Central Cabarrus' defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Daniyah Burton, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 14 rebounds. Burton has been hot for a while, having posted nine or more boards the last 11 times she's played. Felicity Arevalo was another key player, going 7 for 12 en route to 18 points and five rebounds.

Central Cabarrus' loss dropped their record down to 7-11. As for East Rowan, their victory bumped their record up to 15-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Central Cabarrus will venture away from home to square off against East Mecklenburg at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for East Rowan, they will face off against Carson at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Carson has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
