Volleyball Recap: Jefferson Takes a Loss

If Jefferson was feeling good fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Bowie on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Silver Foxes lost 3-0 to the Burges Mustangs on Tuesday. The Silver Foxes were not able to make up for their loss to the Mustangs from their previous meeting back in October of 2024.

The final score came out to 25-20, 25-16, 25-21.

Jaelynn Leverett paced Jefferson's offense, picking up seven kills. Leverett got some help from Jayme Rojas and her 29 assists. Leverett was also a major player on defense: she and Yazmin May shared the team lead in blocks, finishing with four each.

Burges had a senior duo take command as Hailey Cordova had 20 assists and 13 digs and Emilly Banuelos had 20 digs. Those 13 digs set a new season-high mark for Cordova. Another player making a difference was Paradieselynn Fuimaono, who had seven assists and six digs.

Jefferson's defeat dropped their record down to 11-9. As for Burges, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season.

Jefferson has already played their next match, a 3-0 loss against Chapin on the 19th. As for Burges, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-1 win against Canutillo on the 19th.
