Softball Recap: Montcalm Comes Up Short

Montcalm had lost six straight at home, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 2-9 to make it seven. They lost 13-6 to the Cross Lanes Christian Warriors. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Warriors this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 13-0 on Saturday.

As for Cross Lanes Christian, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 9-6. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games.

For Cross Lanes Christian's part, Cassidy Witt made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). Witt has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Elliet Malcomb was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with three runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since April 1st. Another player making a difference was Jordan Ellison, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.

Montcalm has already played their next game (against Greater Beckley Christian), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Cross Lanes Christian, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 6-3 win against Grace Christian on the 28th.
