Softball Recap: Make It Six in a Row for Mena

Mena proved they can win big last Tuesday (they won by ten) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They won by a run and slipped past the Pottsville Apaches 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Bearcats have posted since April 22, 2024.

Abi Koppein spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Mena saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lily Rowland, who went 1-for-3 with one home run. Rowland also put up a run, which was her first of the season.

The victory was the sixth in a row for Mena, bringing their record up to 6-2. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.2 runs over those games. As for Pottsville, they moved to 6-4 with that defeat, which also ended their five-game winning streak.

Mena and Pottsville will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next matches. The next time Mena sees the field they'll take on Waldron at 4:30 p.m. on April 1. As for Pottsville, their break will end when they face Scranton at 4:30 p.m. on the 31st.
