Softball Recap: Mena Bearcats vs. Pottsville Apaches
Mena proved they can win big last Tuesday (they won by ten) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They won by a run and slipped past the Pottsville Apaches 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Bearcats have posted since April 22, 2024.
Abi Koppein spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Mena saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lily Rowland, who went 1-for-3 with one home run. Rowland also put up a run, which was her first of the season.
