Basketball Recap: Cooper Brown Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Southern

Columbiana won the last time they faced Southern and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Columbiana Clippers came out on top against the Southern Indians by a score of 67-59. Given the Clippers' advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 312th, while the Indians are ranked 725th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Columbiana to victory, but perhaps none more so than Cooper Brown, who went 7 of 9 on his way to 19 points along with six boards and three blocks. What's more, Brown also posted a 78% shooting accuracy, which is the highest he's posted since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Hunter Davanzo, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds.

The victory made it two in a row for Columbiana and bumps their season record up to 14-2. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.5 points over those games. As for Southern, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-9 record this season.

Columbiana has already played their next contest, a 70-51 win against David Anderson on the 31st. As for Southern, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 73-48 defeat against Wellsville on the 31st.
