Basketball Recap: Dekaney Falls Despite Big Games from Maya Shotwell and Sophia Collins

Dekaney lost against Spring back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. 2025 welcomed the Dekaney Wildcats with a 47-25 loss courtesy of the Spring Lions. The Wildcats' defeat continues a trend for the team, making it three in a row.

Despite the loss, Dekaney had strong showings from Sophia Collins, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine boards, and Maya Shotwell, who went 5 of 11 on her way to 12 points and three steals. Collins continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last four games she's played.

Spring found their leader in freshman Samora Sampson, who went 6 of 14 on her way to 14 points in addition to seven assists and six boards. With that strong performance, Sampson is now averaging an impressive 2.1 steals per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Jessica Reese, who went 6 of 8 on her way to 13 points.

Dekaney's defeat dropped their record down to 3-13. As for Spring, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a massive bump to their 12-14 record this season.

Dekaney wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 33-26 win against MacArthur on the 7th. As for Spring, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 57-50 loss against Nimitz on the 7th.
