Basketball Recap: Bobby Bryson's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Maple Valley over Union City

Maple Valley lost against Union City back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Maple Valley Lions lost 62-37 to the Union City Chargers. The contest marked the Lions' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Maple Valley's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Bobby Bryson, who posted ten points. Those ten points gave Bryson a new career-high. Jim Wiggs was another key player, putting up four points along with five rebounds and three steals.

Union City had a senior duo take command as Rick Austin earned 13 points in addition to seven assists and three steals and Aidan Decker dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Elijah Payne, who had eight points and five steals.

Maple Valley is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-11. As for Union City, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-5.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Maple Valley will challenge Comstock at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Union City, they will face off against Reading at 7:00 p.m. on February 7th.
