Baseball Game Preview: Piedmont Highlanders vs. Castro Valley Trojans

For the second straight game, Piedmont will face off against Castro Valley. The Highlanders will be playing in front of their home fans against the Trojans at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Piedmont 3.6, Castro Valley 2.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Piedmont fell victim to Castro Valley and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Trojans. The Highlanders have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

For Castro Valley's part, Scott Baldwin tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over 6.1 innings pitched. Baldwin has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Owen Seidel, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Anthony Mares, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

The victory was the fourth in a row for Castro Valley, bringing their record up to 15-4. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Piedmont, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-6.
