2017-18 MAXPREPS NATIONAL CHAMPIONS

For the third time since 2013, Montverde Academy is home to high school basketball's national champions.

The Eagles finished 35-0 led by R.J. Barrett, who led the way averaging 28.7 points, 8.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game. The Duke commit was surrounded by a bevy of high-major talents with Gonzaga pledge Filip Petrusev, Florida commit Andrew Nembhard, Georgia Tech signee Mike Devoe, and 2019 five-star prospect Balsa Koprivica forming an impressive supporting cast.

The perennial powerhouse notched its fourth GEICO Nationals championship in the last six seasons, defeating Lone Peak (Highland, Utah), Findlay Prep (Henderson, Nev.) and University (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) last week in New York City.

Barrett and company won 16 games against teams among the top 175 in the MaxPreps Computer Rankings, including signature victories over DeMatha (Hyattsville, Md.), La Lumiere (LaPorte, Ind.), Simeon (Chicago), Roselle Catholic (N.J.), University and Findlay Prep (twice).

The Eagles dominance was evident throughout the season, beating teams by an average of nearly 30 points and averaging just under 82 points per game. Most impressively, the elite program knocked off University 76-58 behind a monster 25-point, 15-rebound performance from Barrett.

Kevin Boyle's squad has gone a combined 177-8 over the past six seasons with national Top 10 finishes in each.
