Basketball Recap: Zyking Patillo Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Pamlico County

A well-balanced attack led Havelock over Pamlico County in every quarter on their way to victory on Wednesday. The Havelock Rams walked away with a 57-46 victory over the Pamlico County Hurricanes. Given the Rams' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 212th, while the Hurricanes are ranked 493rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Havelock's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Zyking Patillo, who went 6 for 7 on his way to 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaylen Hewitt, who posted 11 points in addition to seven rebounds and five blocks.

Havelock smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in three consecutive matches.

Pamlico County's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tariq Barber, who put up 19 points. The team also got some help courtesy of VJ Midgett, who had 13 points.

Havelock is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a massive bump to their 6-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.5 points per game. As for Pamlico County, their loss was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-9.

Havelock will challenge Northside - Jacksonville at 7:30 p.m. on January 17th. As for Pamlico County, they will take on Lejeune at 7:30 p.m. on January 16th. Lejeune is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 62.9 points per game this season.
