Softball Game Preview: New Smyrna Beach Barracudas vs. Spruce Creek Hawks

New Smyrna Beach is 0-9 against Spruce Creek since April of 2015 but things could change on Tuesday. After both having extra time off, the two teams will shake off the rust and duke it out at 5:30 p.m. New Smyrna Beach has given up an average of 15.1 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

New Smyrna Beach is headed into Tuesday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their sixth straight game last Tuesday. They came up short against DeLand, falling 12-1.

New Smyrna Beach saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alyssa Layton, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI. That RBI was Layton's first of the season.

Meanwhile, Spruce Creek had just enough and edged out University 6-4 last Tuesday. The victory continues a trend for the Hawks in their matchups with the Titans: they've now won five in a row.

Aubrey Yeary looked comfortable as she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, she gave up only one walk, the fewest she's had since back in March of 2024.

On the hitting side, Taylor Ferrandino was incredible, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one home run the last three times she's played.

Spruce Creek's win was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. As for New Smyrna Beach, their loss dropped their record down to 1-6.
