Basketball Recap: Russell County Comes Up Short

Russell County was the 58-52 winner over Valley when they last played one another back in December of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Russell County Warriors fell 51-39 to the Valley Rams on Friday.

Despite the loss, Russell County saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Mckenzie Word went 11 of 22 on her way to 31 points and four steals. Word's evening made it five games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points.

Valley found their leader in sophomore Kayden Dooley, who went 7 for 16 en route to 21 points. Jamiah Johnson was another key player, putting up nine points.

Russell County's defeat dropped their record down to 10-10. As for Valley, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 9-6.

Russell County wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 44-36 victory against Eufaula on the 18th. Valley has also already played their next match (against LaFayette), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
