Basketball Recap: Champion Takes a Loss

Champion was the 60-57 winner over Brookfield when they last played one another last Saturday, but their luck changed this time around. The Champion Golden Flashes fell 46-36 to the Brookfield Warriors on Tuesday. The Golden Flashes' loss continues a trend for the team, making it three in a row.

Despite the defeat, Champion saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Damien Wickham went 5-for-11 to rack up 13 points.

Brookfield found their leader in freshman Blake Hammond, who went 8-for-18 en route to 19 points along with six boards and four steals. Hammond is crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least three every time he's taken the court this season. Rob Flynn was another key player, putting up seven points in addition to ten rebounds and seven assists.

Champion's loss dropped their record down to 5-16. As for Brookfield, their win bumped their record up to 11-9.

Coming up, Champion will welcome Garfield at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Garfield is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 61.3 points per game this season. As for Brookfield, they will venture away from home to face off against Liberty at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Brookfield is facing Liberty at the right time seeing as Liberty is stuck on a ten-game losing streak.
