Baseball Recap: Man Hillbillies vs. Belfry Pirates
Man had lost three straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped down to 9-14 to make it four. They came up short against the Belfry Pirates, falling 18-8. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Pirates this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-8 two weeks ago.
Landon Cantrell was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
As for Belfry, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-11 record this season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 games by six runs or more this season.
On Belfry's side, Garrett Maynard looked comfortable as he pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Maynard has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Eli Caudill, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of David Michael Hagy, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Looking ahead, Man will square off against Chapmanville Regional at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Belfry, they will welcome Johnson Central at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
